Bulfinch Crossing in Bloom
The area nestled in between Boston’s Financial District and the North End is reimagining Boston’s urban experience. Building upon over 200 years of rich history, Bulfinch Crossing is transforming the Boston landscape with boutique offices, iconic retail, and luxury apartments and condominiums at The Sudbury. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of city life and construction lies an urban oasis of culture and art springing onto the horizon. You could say Bulfinch Crossing is blooming in more ways than one.
Aspiring to be more than a neighborhood, Bulfinch Crossing is building a bridge to highlight local artists and talent. Boston-based artist Allison Tenenhaus is one of them. Allison is a “digital glitch artist who specializes in abstract geometrics, vibrant color fields, optical perspectives, mind-bending motion, and unexpected dimensional qualities.” Tanenhaus was able to bring her unique style to the custom art installation at Bulfinch Crossing. Her goal for “Crossing Crystals” was to be eye-catching, welcoming, and a beacon of culture for people who live in the neighborhood and tourists in the Downtown Boston area. Allison also wants her piece “to breathe new life into the space, and to signify the changes that are going to be coming to this area.”
The “Crossing Crystals” installation was produced by Isenberg Projects, a woman-owned creative firm in Boston, MA. According to their website, Isenberg Projects has produced hundreds of projects since 2011, pushing over 1 million dollars into the hands of the local creative economy.
The newest art addition to the Bulfinch Crossing area is the animated projection underneath Boston’s Government Center Garage. The new installation titled “City Bloom” consists of 23 projectors shooting 345,000 lumens out, making it a must-see in the evening for anyone visiting or living in Downtown Boston.
“City Bloom” was produced by Boston-based artist Zebbler and was inspired by a local flower store. According to Zebbler, “City Bloom is designed to bring an illuminated spark of joy to Boston, with its animation playfully exploring the boundary between a static fine art installation and a VJ performance.”
